Neighborhood Newsletter January 2019

Happy January, JTV!

We’ve survived the Holidays and are hunkering down for some chilly weather right now! Wanted to update you on a few things.

Thank you to all that came out to help us build our new playground and put down rubber mulch! It was great meeting some new faces.
We are in the process of replacing the little section of fence that came down, and picnic tables are soon to arrive.
Anything else you would like to see? Come out to the January Annual Meeting on January 28th, or email us at [email protected]!

Have you been to the new website www.jamestownevillage.info? There is great info on there, including special JTV pricing for Power Washing (under the Bulletin Board Tab), info on how to get approved for any changes/additions to your property, and how to update your info to ensure we have it right, etc.

Neighborhood Newsletter December 2018

Hello Neighbors!

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season, I love the lights and decorations I’ve seen so far! I am very excited to let everyone know what’s been going on in the neighborhood and what’s on the horizon.

1) We have parted ways with our management company and are bringing everything in-house again. As a board, we are anxious to begin reestablishing ways of working together as a community, hearing everyone’s input, and working together to ensure Jamestowne Village is restored to its standards and beauty that not only protect our investment but make it a great place to live.

2) As a board, we have been working hard the last month to get things established and start moving the needle. So far the old broken playground has been removed and we are working on pricing new structures and also picnic tables for the area, as well as fence repair. We now have a neighborhood P. O. Box. Our website, www.jamestownevillage.info, has been loaded up with useful information and FAQs, so please take a moment to look at it! We are getting contacts together to install a sprinkler system in the front entrance so we can finally plant grass, and also working to improve other landscaping such as cutting back trees in the entrance, around ponds, in Gunpowder Court and in the Playground area.

3) Our annual meeting will be Monday, January 28th from 6:30pm-7pm at the new James Island Town Hall at 1122 Dills Bluff Rd. Board meeting to follow from 7pm-7:45pm.

4) We are looking for people to join our HOA! If you are interested or have any questions, please feel free to email [email protected]. We will elect new members at the January meeting.

Sincerely,
Sarah Cobb
Manager/Treasurer/Secretary

Reminders:
-Is your trash and/or recycling bin visible from the street?
-Is your boat screened from view from the street?
-Are toys, bicycles, beach gear, etc. being stored on your porch?
-Is the paint on your shutters and front door faded?
-Are your porch rails and columns in good condition?
-Do you have a fence that needs to be repaired or painted?
-Is your lawn growing over the pavement or does it need to be edged?
-Are trees and shrubs cut back to an appropriate scale and size?

Clarification: the city trims tree limbs if the tree is between the sidewalk and the road. If your tree is in your yard and hangs down on the sidewalk, it is your responsibility to trim it back.

If you are hoping to make changes to the landscape of your yard or structure, please contact the ARC for approval. There is an approval form on our new website, as well as the full Covenants and Restrictions: www.jamestownevillage.info.

Dues are due by end of January and will be mailed out soon. Note: there will be NO INCREASE in dues this year!

This is the last hard-copy newsletter, all others will be emailed! Please make sure we have an up-to-date email address. You can update your info on our website www.jamestownevillage.info and click on Provide/Update Info!

Crime Watch

For Emergencies and In-Progress Crimes, dial 911. For Suspicious Activity, People or Vehicles, call 843-743-7200.

If you are the victim of a crime, and are willing to share details with the neighborhood, send an email to [email protected].

The City of Charleston has a Crime Prevention & Community Relations Unit that supports neighborhoods like Jamestowne Village. To receive periodic Crime Prevention messages go to Charleston’s Notify Me and register to receive Police – Crime Prevention Messages – General, and Police – Team 3 (James and Johns Islands). Register for both!

Each homeowner has a responsibility to actively discourage crime in the neighborhood by making your house less desirable for criminals.

Get to Know Your Neighbors

People are more likely to report suspicious behavior at a house of someone they know.

Lock Your Car Doors and Remove Valuables

Crime in Jamestowne Villlage is usually the result of someone walking through and pulling on car handles. If a door opens they look through it. If all cars are locked they leave.

Secure Your Valuables

Do not leave anything out at night that you do not want stolen. Again, these people usually walk through and take opportunity at easy targets.

Dusk to Dawn Lighting

Dusk till dawn lighting is usually better than motion lights. Bad guys can quickly ID blind spots in motion light sensors and move around them avoiding triggering
the light.

Do Not Leave Firearms in Vehicles

The last thing we want in JTV is a gun in the hands of a bad guy.

Keep Landscaping Trimmed

Make it hard for bad guys to be able to hide in the shadows when cars pass.

Inventory Your Valuables

When burglars go to pawn shops, the pawnshop keeps a record of the individual who pawned the item as well as the items serial number. If you have a serial number for the police, it can help with finding the bad guys.

Please know that the more success bad guys have in JTV, the more likely they are to return. However, if they strike out a couple of nights and know that we will call the police every time, they will move onto an easier target. So if you are a victim of crime, please report it to the police no matter how small you feel it is. The police will increase patrols based on recent activity.

For Emergencies and In-Progress Crimes, dial 911. For Suspicious Activity, People or Vehicles, call 843-743-7200.

If you are the victim of a crime, and are willing to share details with the neighborhood, send an email to [email protected].
